European Data Protection Manager – Fixed Term 

Excellent opportunity for a highly experienced data protection and privacy professional to be based from Sharp’s European HQ on a fixed term contract which we anticipate will be for approximately 9 months, starting in early May 
You will be responsible for implementing the Company’s data protection & privacy vision and approach, ensuring that adequate policies, processes and procedures are embedded across Europe and that the Company fully complies with its legal obligations under data protection laws.

Key Responsibilities:

Leading & managing the European data protection & privacy governance structure to assist the Company in implementing data protection compliance, including liaison with Sharp Corporation in Japan.

Providing strategic information on data protection compliance to the Sharp in Europe Board and chair the Information Risk Committee, strategic oversight committee on privacy and information security

Providing subject matter expertise to the business on contract reviews to protect Sharp’s commercial and legal position

Managing data protection training & developing education and awareness communications 

Acting as the point of contact with Data Protection Supervisory Authorities ensuring that any issues are notified and dealt with in a prompt and efficient manner

Leading key data management & privacy programmes & projects

Assisting DP leads in Sharp’s European entities with performing privacy impact assessments and implementing Privacy by Design 

Managing the DP champion network and central privacy team (1 direct report)

Providing assistance to the operating entities on the implementation of the GDPR

Providing advice, guidance and support to central IT functions and individual operating entities on data protection & privacy matters

Maintaining quarterly European DP reporting to monitor privacy trends and areas for improvement

Leading and managing the Data Incident Management Process, ensuring that all data incidents are reported, investigated and remedied in accordance with the European guidance

Reviewing and maintaining Sharp’s data protection and privacy policies to ensure they are kept up-to-date and represent current best practice

Experience / Qualifications

•    Significant experience in a European wide Data Protection and privacy, Information Management, Governance and Compliance role 
•    Ability to apply data privacy expertise in commercial situations, providing pragmatic solutions whilst maintaining high privacy and data security standards 
•    Understanding of European data protection laws and practices and an in-depth understanding of the GDPR
•    Excellent communication skills with key stakeholders, data subjects, data protection authorities and other controllers and processors across national boundaries and cultures as required
•    Adaptable, proactive and enthusiastic about privacy, able to multitask and prioritise in line with the business need 
•    Integrity and high professional ethics, commitment to quality 
•    Team player who can quickly understand and manage complex situations.
•    Professional qualification such as ISEB (Data protection),  CIPP/E or CIPM
